Battle for Nairobi: Jaymo Ule Msee, Winnie Odinga, And Jalang’o Declare Bids For 2027 Senate Seat
The race for the Nairobi County senatorial seat in the 2027 General Election is heating up following a wave of high-profile declarations from key public figures, content creators, and politicians.
Content creator and aspiring politician Wilson Muirani Gathoni, popularly known as Jaymo Ule Msee, officially reaffirmed his intention to contest the capital’s Senate seat under the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket.
Taking to social media on Thursday, October 15, 2026, Jaymo unveiled a campaign poster draped in UDA’s signature branding alongside a image of President William Ruto, bearing the message:
“Vote Jaymo Ule Msee for Senator Nairobi County 2027.”
Winnie Odinga Throws Her Hat in the Ring
Jaymo’s announcement comes on the heels of a major political declaration by East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) MP Winnie Odinga.
Speaking during the first anniversary commemoration of her late father, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, in Bondo, Siaya County, Winnie formally announced her intention to transition to Nairobi county politics.
“Let it not be a rumour that as Edwin Sifuna searches for higher offices, I see kuna nafasi hapo Nairobi. That is why I have decided that I will stand for the senator of Nairobi County,” Winnie stated.
“Lakini siendi peke yangu, I am going with young people,” she added, urging youth across Kenya to step up and vie for elective posts at all levels.
Jalang’o Signals Readiness: “To the Wire”
Shortly after Winnie’s announcement, Lang’ata MP Phelix Odiwuor (Jalang’o) reiterated his own ambitions for the county seat.
The comedian-turned-politician—who was elected to represent Lang’ata Constituency in 2022 under the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM)— took to social media to signal that he is fully prepared for a tough nomination battle or direct contest.
“To the wire – I am ready!” Jalang’o posted on X (formerly Twitter).
A Crowded Field to Succeed Sifuna
The surge of interest in the Nairobi senatorial seat comes as incumbent Senator Edwin Sifuna sets his sights on higher national office.
Looking Ahead
With a star-studded lineup blending youth icons, seasoned politicians, legal minds, and media personalities, the Nairobi Senate seat is quickly becoming one of the most closely watched battles ahead of 2027. The final battle lines will be drawn once party nominations and formal coalition arrangements take shape.
