Super Typhoon Rosal slightly intensified while moving west westward over the Philippine Sea east of Central Luzon, the state weather bureau PAGASA said.

According to the 5 p.m. bulletin, Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 is hoisted in the following areas in Luzon:

  • Batanes
  • Babuyan Islands
  • The northern portion of Ilocos Norte (Pagudpud)
  • The northern and eastern portions of mainland Cagayan (Santa Ana, Gonzaga, Lal-Lo, Santa Teresita, Camalaniugan, Aparri, Buguey, Gattaran, Baggao, Peñablanca, Santa Praxedes, Claveria, Sanchez-Mira, Pamplona, Ballesteros, Abulug, Allacapan)
  • The northeastern portion of Isabela (Maconacon, Divilacan, Palanan)
  • The northeastern portion of Catanduanes (Pandan, Bagamanoc, Panganiban, Viga, Gigmoto)

The center of the eye of Rosal was last monitored 1,270 kilometers east of Central Luzon.

It has maximum sustained winds of 195 kilometers per hour near the center, and gustiness of up to 240 kilometers per hour.

Super Typhoon Rosal will move generally west northwestward until Wednesday, October 21 before moving generally northwestward until Friday morning, October 2023.

On the forecast track, Rosal will be closest to extreme northern Luzon between Thursday, October 21 and Friday, said PAGASA.

“This tropical cyclone will begin to turn north northwestward to northward by Friday afternoon until it exits the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) by Friday evening or Saturday (24 October) early morning,” said PAGASA.

Rosal is forecast to maintain its strength as a super typhoon and further intensification remains possible while it moves over the Philippine Sea, PAGASA added.

It is expected to gradually weaken into a typhoon on Thursday evening or Friday early morning. –NB, GMA News
