ANOTHER woman found dead in Ekurhuleni amid five-death probe

Police have found another woman dead in Ekurhuleni, as detectives continue investigating the deaths of five women in and around Kempton Park.

Officers discovered the woman’s body on the side of a road in KwaThema, Springs, on Tuesday morning, 15 September.

The latest discovery comes as SAPS intensifies its probe into the Kempton Park and Olifantsfontein cases. Police have not confirmed any link between the KwaThema death and the five cases already under investigation.

Separate investigation in KwaThema

The latest discovery comes a day after police found a fifth woman dead in Olifantsfontein.

SAPS has assembled a multidisciplinary team to investigate the five earlier cases. Detectives are comparing evidence, locations, timelines and victim profiles to determine whether any links exist.

Police have repeatedly cautioned against linking cases before forensic and investigative work establishes a connection.

Deputy National Police Commissioner Lieutenant-General Tebello Mosikili said investigators had identified similarities in some of the deaths but would not confirm links until they completed the necessary processes.

Five women’s deaths already under investigation

Police have investigated five women’s deaths across the broader Kempton Park and Olifantsfontein area since July.

The fifth woman was found partially clothed beside a road in Clayville Extension 26, Olifantsfontein, on Monday. Police said she had visible bruising and may have been killed elsewhere before her body was left at the scene.

Police have arrested one suspect in connection with the first case from July. SAPS has not linked that suspect to the other deaths.

Authorities have increased patrols and deployed detectives, forensic specialists, intelligence officers, tracking teams and K9 units across affected parts of Ekurhuleni as the investigations continue.

For now, police are treating the KwaThema discovery separately and have not added it to the five cases under investigation.
