Jennifer Lawrence's Candid Confessions Are Classic for a Reason

Jennifer Lawrence’s Reaction to Being Connor Wood’s Celeb Crush Is Straight Out of Her Playbook

Vintage Jennifer Lawrence is the best.

Along with the Oscar-caliber acting skills she displayed almost upon arrival in Hollywood 20 years ago, the now 36-year-old quickly became a reliable source of fabulously unfiltered commentary, her takes on pretty much everything—be it fame, appearance, bodily functions or Larry David—never failing to shock and delight.

But while becoming a walking pull quote came with great success, Lawrence pre-read the room and took a big step back from the spotlight in 2018.

"I needed a break from it," the Die My Love star said on a November 2025 episode of the New York Times' The Interview podcast, referring to her decade of headline ubiquity. "People needed a break from it. It was a mutual breakup.”

When she surfaced to promote Don't Look Up in 2021, she admitted to feeling some trepidation, quipping to Vanity Fair, "I’m nervous for you. I’m nervous for me. I’m nervous for the readers!"

Well, we're happy to report that Lawrence—while keeping certain boundaries in place to protect the private world she shares with husband Cooke Maroney and their kids Cy, 4, and his 19-month-old brother—re-emerged as her funny AF self when it comes to being a font of remarks to chew on and savor.

For instance, she shared with The Cut in an interview published Oct. 27 that, while personally testing the products while developing her new hair care line, Mes, she left an unscented mask on for four days and started to smell like fish.

Lawrence recalled, "My husband was like, 'If you don't wash your hair, you have to get a hotel room.'"

And though Mes is purposefully pronounced "mess," the Hunger Games alum's foray into the beauty world is all in service of being a "sexy mom."

"At drop-off," she explained, "I want to look like a woman that has her s--t together even when I've just woken up and don't have my s --t together."

And if her hair looks good, Lawrence noted, "then nobody's gonna notice anything else about my face, clothes or body. I also can find myself using it to hide."

We appreciate her honesty, as always. Keep reading to see more of Lawrence's finest candid quotes:

Catching Fire

When she was nominated for her first Best Actress Oscar at 20, for the 2010 indie drama Winter's Bone, Jennifer Lawrence made quite the impression right out of the gate, setting the tone for endless interviews to come.

"I just ate a Philly cheese steak and I was kinda worried about it," the star, clad in her instant-classic red Calvin Klein dress, shared with Entertainment Tonight on her first Oscars red carpet when told she looked incredible.

"You know, I think that people are built the way that they're built," she continued. "You know, there's that quote, the Kate Moss quote, that's like 'Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels'? "And I'm like, I can name a lot of things that taste better than skinny feels: potatoes, bread...a Philly cheese steak and fries!"

Have Mercy!

This is not the outfit Lawrence was wearing when, in her words, she stalked John Stamos at a party.

"He was at a party, and I turned into a perverted guy," she said on Conan in 2013. "I was like following him into rooms and staring at his ass."

Lawrence explained, "I lost my mind. And I got so upset—I didn't want to meet him because when I meet people it's never good, and I was avoiding him. But then my friends brought him over because my friends are jerks, and I started really freaking out. And he asked me if I was on mushrooms and I said, 'No. I'm dead sober. This is just me...'

"I just kept smiling and being like, 'Dude... Uncle Jesse.'"

Nick Jonas alerted Stamos to the interview by tweeting at him, "I envy you," to which Stamos replied, "I envy myself!" The Full House star added, "For the first time, I was totally oblivious."

Tripping Her Way to the Top

"You guys are just standing up because you feel bad that I fell—and that's really embarrassing, but thank you," the Silver Linings Playbook star said upon finally reaching the stage to accept her Oscar for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in 2013, making the 22-year-old the second-youngest best actress winner ever.

Though the incident did indeed establish her reputation as a stumbler, the standing ovation was for a role well played.

And maybe a little bit because she fell.

"Was that on purpose? Absolutely," Lawrence joked backstage, Oscar in hand. "What do you mean, 'what happened?' Look at my dress," she added, pointing to the massive skirt of her Dior ballgown. "I tried to walk upstairs in this dress. That's what happened...Yeah, I think I just stepped on the fabric, and they wax the stairs."

Asked what went through her mind in that moment, she replied, "A bad word that I can't say, that starts with 'F.'"

Recalling the moment a year later to W, Lawrence explained, "I was at the Oscars, waiting to hear if my name was called, and I kept thinking, Cakewalk, cakewalk, cakewalk. I thought, Why is 'cakewalk' stuck in my head? And then, as I started to walk up the stairs and the fabric from my dress tucked under my feet, I realized my stylist had told me, 'Kick, walk, kick, walk.' You are supposed to kick the dress out while you walk, and I totally forgot because I was thinking about cake! And that's why I fell.'"

Reflecting on the Fall

Lawrence later wondered if the fall was the beginning of the end.

She already felt that her perch at the top of the Hollywood food chain was "precarious," noting on the New York Times' The Interview podcast in 2025, "That’s just the nature of things."

"And then I fell getting my Oscar," she continued, "and the next year I was waving to fans and I tripped on a cone and I remember being like: “[Expletive], that’s it. Nobody’s gonna believe that I fell two years in a row.”

So, when she was accused of staging a fall, "Everybody thought that meant everything that I did was fake and it was all a shtick. This is how it felt to me. That I got found out as this fraud."

Creepin' on Taylor Swift

Whether she knew she was in the frame or not, the Hunger Games star zeroed in on Taylor Swift at the 2014 Golden Globes with a flourish.

"I was going to come in and push you down the stairs," Lawrence quipped when she crashed Swift's interview with E!'s Ryan Seacrest. "I was like, 'She'll crack up. She would really love that.'"

We haven't stopped thinking about Lawrence calling the crease that naturally forms under one's arm her "armpit vagina" at the 2014 SAG Awards.

Spilling Her Enthusiasm for Larry David

Lawrence had a raging crush on Larry David, but you could almost hear the "...eh" coming from the Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm creator.

"I'm in love with him, and I have been for a very long time," she told Vanity Fair in 2014. "I worship Woody Allen, but I don't feel it below the belt the way I do for Larry David."

When those quotes were read back to him during a New Yorker Festival Q&A, David, who's 43 years her senior, replied, "I don't think I could do it. On one hand, it's very flattering and on another hand, it's kind of a shame—in terms of timing. I'd have fun watching the reality show of it, though."

Geeking Out at Pump

Her love for the Real Housewives franchise is real, so of course she and her pals made a sojourn to the since-shuttered Pump in West Hollywood, part of Lisa Vanderpump's restaurant empire, where they created their own intro for spin-off Vanderpump Rules.

Fangirling Over Bill Murray

Someone was excited to see the iconic funnyman making his Comic-Con debut in 2015.

"I've been a big fan of Bill Murray for a really long time," Lawrence told reporters at a press conference following the cast's Mockingjay Part 2 panel in Hall H. "I sent emails to Woody, mostly when I was drunk, about things I always wanted to say to Bill Murray. So, he received them. The fact that Bill Murray knows that I exist was part one, part two was, he wanted to speak to me."

Getting in Bed With the Kardashians

Lawrence made no secret of her obsession with the reigning first family of reality TV, even revealing that she watched endless repeats of Keeping Up With the Kardashians while shooting mother! so she could decompress from the intense role.

She told Vogue in 2017, "It got to a point in the movie where it got so dark I was like ya know what? I need the Kardashians."

Cue Lawrence FaceTiming into KUWTK in 2019.

Fly, Eagles, Fly

Rules of the sky be damned, Lawrence commandeered the mic to lead her fellow airplane passengers in a cheer for the Philadelphia Eagles ahead of Super Bowl LII—which they won.

How She Really Felt About Her Wedding Day

"I'm so happy I didn't freak out and cancel the wedding and run away and go, 'I'll never be taken down!'" Lawrence cracked to the New York Times in 2021.

But, in all honesty, "It's so stressful," she told E!'s Keltie Knight at the 2024 Golden Globes about the day she wed gallerist Cooke Maroney in 2019. "You're not having fun. You're just like, 'Is that person having fun?'"

Spelling It Out

Asked what she'd been up to during her acting hiatus, the visibly pregnant Lawrence told Stephen Colbert in December 2021, "I just had a ton of sex."

Why She Took a Break From Hollywood

“I was not pumping out the quality that I should have,” Lawrence, who put acting on the back burner in 2018 after several of her films in a row were met with underwhelming responses, told Vanity Fair in 2021. “I just think everybody had gotten sick of me. I’d gotten sick of me. It had just gotten to a point where I couldn’t do anything right. If I walked a red carpet, it was, ‘Why didn’t she run?’"

Why She Identifies as a "Stay-at-Home Mom"

“I identify as a stay-at-home mom," Lawrence, who shares two young sons with husband Cooke Maroney, said on a January 2026 episode of SmartLess. "But I am obviously working."

She explained, “I’m not used to being busy like this. I normally have a busy three months while I’m filming, but even in that sense, it’s calm because there is nothing else to do. I just go to work, come home, sleep, and then I do it again. And then, for two weeks, you promote. It is hectic.”

Your Average Case of Mom Guilt

"There’s no squeezing [in work] when you have a baby," Lawrence told fellow mom Cameron Diaz in a chat for Interview in 2024. "There’s just home, and it’s the best. It definitely helps weed out projects: 'Yes. No. Yes. No. Yes. No. Is this worth being away from my child for half the day?'"

"Fortunately," she added, "my husband is the greatest father in the entire world, so when I’m working, I don’t have any more guilt than the usual every day, all-day parent guilt."
