Machvision boosts capacity target

CLEAR OUTLOOK: Automated optical inspection equipment sales are expected to have the strongest growth, with some orders reaching three years, the Machvision CEO said

Automated optical inspection (AOI) equipment supplier Machvision Inc (牧德) yesterday raised its annual capacity expansion target by more than 60 percent, aiming for a production output of NT$10 billion (US$314 million) from the NT$6 billion it estimated in March, driven by a surge in demand for artificial intelligence (AI)-related applications.

In addition, the company’s new semiconductor automated inspection division is expected to see growth accelerate next year driven by the broadening market adoption of wafer-level inspection, optical transceiver systems and electrical testers, Machvision said.

Starting as a substrate AOI system supplier, the company expanded to the semiconductor inspection market three years ago.

Machvision chairman Collin Wang (汪光夏) told an investor conference in Taipei yesterday that the company has longer and clearer order visibility this year, compared with three to four months ago.

Wang attributed the strong order outlook to continued demand for AOI tools used in graphics processing units and advanced substrates for AI servers, high-end substrates and advanced packaging technologies such as chip-on-wafer-on-substrate and fan-out panel-level packaging.

Machvision chief executive officer Jasper Chen (陳復生) said that among the company’s four major product lines, AOI tools for semiconductors and substrates would have the strongest growth momentum, with order visibility exceeding one year, and some substrate inspection orders even reaching three years.

The company expects AI-related products to contribute about 70 percent to its total revenue this year and make up 80 to 90 percent next year, Wang said.

Within two years, the company’s semiconductor AOI equipment is expected to surpass substrate inspection tools, underpinned by the vast scale of the broader semiconductor inspection market that is worth NT$30 billion a year, he said.

“We believe 2026 marks only the initial stage of this growth trajectory,” Wang said. “Next year, the growth will be more significant.”

The company’s growth momentum is expected to extend into next year after registering a sixth consecutive month of record revenue, Wang said.

The company has seen monthly revenue rise to all-time highs for 30 straight months, he said.

The company’s revenue grew about 14 percent to NT$2.63 billion during the first eight months of this year from NT$2.3 billion a year earlier.

Machvision semiconductor AOI systems falls under its parent company ASE Technology Holding Co (日月光投控).

While the company maintains high confidence regarding next year’s revenue outlook, it acknowledged that supply chain fluctuations pose a risk to dampening growth momentum.

To overcome this, Machvision said it has boosted its component inventory to 1.5 times of their lead time and added new suppliers.
