Small plane crashes into pickup truck on busy Florida highway

Translate

A small plane crashed into the rear of a pickup truck as it made an emergency landing on a busy Florida highway on Saturday but miraculously no one was injured in the dramatic incident.

Video footage obtained from the sheriff’s office shows a Cessna 172 grazing over the truck as it approached the ground for a complete landing on a road in Fort Meyers at about 11.45am on Saturday.

The aircraft made an emergency landing after the pilot reported an engine issue, according to a Federal Aviation Agency (FAA) statement.

The plane took off from Sebring, Florida, around 11am on Saturday before it made the emergency landing about 50 minutes later, according to flight tracking data.

There were two people on board the aircraft and the pickup truck was traveling eastbound on Bayshore Road.

There were no reported injuries on the scene, according the Lee county sheriff’s office.

“Couldn’t have been a better outcome. Grateful doesn’t come close!” Carmine Marceno, Lee county’s sheriff, shared in a post to X.

LCSO Patrol & Florida’s department of transportation safely relocated the aircraft while the FAA is working to assume the investigation, Marceno added.

The FAA is the lead agency on the investigation into the incident.

The emergency landing comes one week after a business jet carrying nine people nose-dived into a south Florida neighborhood and erupted into a giant fireball.
