Egyptian, Omani FMs discuss Iran crisis, Red Sea, Bab al-Mandeb developments

Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty met, Friday, September 25, 2026, with Omani Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi to discuss bilateral relations, Iran Crisis, the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandeb developments.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the high-level segment of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly in New York.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Nader Zaki said Friday that the meeting addressed bilateral relations between Egypt and Oman and ways to further develop and strengthen them across various fields, reflecting the deep-rooted historical ties between the two countries and their brotherly peoples.

The discussions focused in particular on trade and economic cooperation, as well as continued communication and consultations at various levels to exchange views and assessments on key regional and international issues of mutual concern.

The two ministers also discussed regional developments, including the situation in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandeb.

Abdelatty stressed the need to prioritize de-escalation and avoid any steps that could further fuel tensions or threaten regional security and stability.

He underscored the importance of ensuring freedom of navigation in accordance with international law in a manner that contributes to safeguarding regional and international security and stability.

Abdelatty reiterated Egypt’s categorical rejection of any threat to the security of Saudi Arabia and reaffirmed Egypt’s full solidarity with the Kingdom in safeguarding its sovereignty and stability.

He stressed the importance of allowing diplomatic efforts to proceed, stressing that diplomacy remains the appropriate means of addressing challenges.

The ministers also discussed the Iranian crisis and developments in the Strait of Hormuz, exchanging views on Oman’s efforts, in coordination with Egypt and other mediators, to de-escalate tensions.

They stressed the need to safeguard the safety and security of maritime navigation and ensure the uninterrupted flow of trade and energy supplies, which would help mitigate the repercussions of current tensions and promote regional stability.
