Four days into the Asian Games 2026, India have clinched their first gold medal, with the women’s cricket team, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, delivering the result with a thumping 147-run win over Sri Lanka in the final. In a repeat of the 2023 final, the Indian batters put on quite the show, with Smriti Mandhana top-scoring with 79 as India posted a strong 216/3. Sri Lanka, in response, were bundled out for 69.

Man accused of harassing two minors in Bihar's Jamui shot in leg by cops
Nandan Yadav, the main accused behind the alleged harassment of two minors in Bihar's Jamui, was shot in the leg by cops. Yadav and one more person accused in the case have been arrested.
A Class 10 girl and her male friend, both teenagers, were allegedly harassed in Bihar's Jamui, around 150km from Patna, on September 19. The two were headed back from a scenic spot on a two-wheeler when the accused intercepted them on the pretext of ‘moral policing’. Read more.

US President Donald Trump is in New York for a packed schedule of meetings with foreign leaders, with the wars involving Iran and Ukraine among the central issues.
Iranian foreign minister Abbas Araghchi arrived in New York on Monday to attend the 81st UN General Assembly. It is his first visit to the United States since the US and Israel bombed the country and started the ongoing war on February 28.

The situation at the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT-B) remained tense on Tuesday as students continued their protest following the death by suicide of a second-year undergraduate student on the campus on September 18. What began with questions over an incident during a mid-semester examination has now turned into a larger protest over the institute's examination procedures, disciplinary action, student welfare and the handling of the case.

The 72nd National Film Awards ceremony was held in Kevadia, Gujarat, on Tuesday, with President Droupadi Murmu presenting honours for outstanding achievements in Indian cinema in 2024.
