Two Form 4 students were charged in the Kuala Pilah magistrates’ court today with murdering a Form 2 student at a school hostel last month.

Sinar Harian reported that the 16-year-old boys entered no plea after the charges were read before judge Roslinda Razali, as murder falls under the High Court’s jurisdiction.

They are accused of murdering Idlan Fareeq Shahril, 14, between 7.30pm and 8.50pm on Sept 25 at the hostel of a school’s boys in Kuala Pilah.

The charges were framed under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which provides for the death penalty or 30 to 40 years’ imprisonment and 12 strokes of the rotan.

The proceedings, managed by Negeri Sembilan prosecution director Engku Ahmad Rashdi Engku Abdillah, were held behind closed doors because both accused are underage.

Lawyer Hanif Hassan, representing the boys, said the court fixed Dec 7 for mention.

He said the defence had applied for a court order to have both his clients sent to a correctional centre pending counselling by the social welfare department, as provided for under the Child Act 2001.
