Sight of the iguana: Lizard cuts a dash and strikes a pose while wearing a wandering crab like a bowtie

An elegant iguana has been pictured cutting a dashing figure and striking a pose while wearing a wandering crab like a bowtie.

The large lizard was photographed on top of a rock on Fernandina Island in the Galápagos archipelago by Dale Morris.

In one shot, the smartly-dressed iguana is perched upon a mound while a vibrant red crab clings to its neck, giving the appearance of a snazzy bowtie.

Another picture shows three fluorescent Sally Lightfoot Crabs clinging to an iguana as a wave crashes over the lizard and its crustacean counterparts.

Other shots also showed the crabs crawling up toward the resting iguanas - with neither animal seeming to mind the other's presence.

Mr Morris was exploring the island and on the lookout for the speckled Marine Iguanas when he happened upon the pair, which he labelled a 'very funny sight.'

He said: 'I was out on the Island looking for Marine Iguanas when I came across this very funny sight.

'Sally Lightfoot Crabs were crawling around and one had ended up clinging on to an Iguana around its neck, making it look like the Iguana was wearing a bow tie.'

The reptiles are endemic to the Galápagos Islands, an archipelago just over 900 kilometres off the coast of Ecuador.

Coastal scavengers Sally Lightfoot Crabs are found across the islands and also on the western coast of South and Central America.

The crustaceans and reptiles are known to share a very unique relationship with one another.

While the Marine Iguanas prepare to forage for seaweed off the coast of the island, the crabs help clean the lizard's black scales.

The Sally Lightfoot Crab gets a meal and the iguana gets a manicure before it heads off into the water to feed.
