Norway Target Infantino In Unprecedented Double Complaint To FIFA Committees

Translate

In an unprecedented move that has sent shockwaves through the corridors of international football, the Norwegian Football Federation (NFF) has formally filed two major complaints with FIFA bodies, targeting President Gianni Infantino and probing deep-seated governance concerns.

Led by NFF President Lise Klaveness, one of the most vocal critics of the current administration, the federation has taken the historic step of lodging official inquiries with both the FIFA Ethics Committee and the Governance, Audit and Compliance Committee (GACC).

The filings center around three major flashpoints that have dogged world football’s governing body, most notably revolving around decisions made during the recent World Cup cycle.

The Norwegians have made the filings with ‌the global governing body’s committees on ethics and ‌governance, according to a document seen by Reuters.

The NFF is seeking a formal review into potential political interference during the tournament. Specifically, the complaint targets the decision to conditionally lift an automatic one-maitch ban on U.S. forward Folarin Balogun during the World Cup following external communications.

Norway wants transparency on whether independent disciplinary protocols were compromised.

“The first filing is a complaint to ‌the FIFA Ethics Committee. It asks the Ethics Committee to examine ‌the conduct of FIFA President Gianni Infantino and any other individuals identified through the investigation for potential breaches of FIFA’s Code of Ethics,” the NFF said in a statement.

“The second filing is a referral to FIFA’s Governance, Audit and Compliance Committee (“GACC”). It asks whether FIFA’s governance, financial oversight, internal controls and decision-making processes have worked as intended.

“NFF has for several years raised questions about governance, transparency and separation of powers within FIFA. These filings are a natural continuation of NFF’s commitment to the governance of international football,” the statement said.

“The purpose is to ‌raise these issues formally with the appropriate bodies, to have them examined, relevant evidence obtained and accountability for the ‌conclusions reached.”

With the ethics and compliance committees now tasked with studying the files, the move marks the first time a national member association has taken such direct formal action against the sitting FIFA leadership, setting the stage for a bitter institutional showdown.
