NU-MOA: Bomb threat in Pasay campus was a ‘hoax’

MANILA, Philippines — The National University–Mall of Asia (NU-MOA) in Pasay City said authorities have determined that the alleged bomb threat in its campus early Thursday was a hoax.

According to the NU-MOA, its premises have been “cleared and deemed safe,” and no explosive or hazardous materials were found after an inspection by the Pasay City authorities.

Personnel from the PNP MOA Substation K9 unit, Pasay Investigation Division, and the Pasay Bureau of Fire Protection swept the area following the security threat at around 7:50 a.m., the university said.

Meanwhile, afternoon classes resumed. Its morning classes were temporarily held through remote learning modes due to the incident.

“While afternoon classes are expected to resume, we assure our students, faculty, employees, parents and the entire NU community that your safety and security remain our highest priority,” the NU-MOA said earlier.

The NU-MOA urged the public to refrain from spreading unverified information regarding the incident.

It added that announcements or advisories will be posted in its official pages.

“A cyber investigation is underway in coordination with the appropriate offices to trace and verify the source of the threat,” it added. /apl
