Translate

Police have charged the driver of a school bus that crashed west of Melbourne last year, leaving a girl dead and 15 other passengers injured.

The bus rolled on the Hamilton Highway at Stonehaven, near Geelong, about 8:20am on Wednesday, August 27.

Police allege it was turning left onto the Hamilton Highway from Friend in Hand Road when it crashed.

There were 31 students on board at the time.

A 12-year-old girl from Teesdale died at the scene and a 16-year-old was flown to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Nine students were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and 14 others were taken to hospital for observation.

Police have charged the driver, a 76-year-old Hamlyn Heights man, with dangerous driving causing death, failing to stop at a stop sign and careless driving.

He was bailed to appear at the Geelong Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, August 18.
