Mammootty returns to Kochi after fourth National Film Award; dedicates honour to Malayalam cinema.

Mammootty has returned to Kochi after receiving his fourth National Film Award for Best Actor. The veteran Malayalam actor was honoured for his performance as Kodumon Potti in Rahul Sadasivan's 'Bramayugam'.Fans and police personnel gathered at Kochi airport to welcome Mammootty following his return from Gujarat. The actor was also presented with flower bouquets at the airport.Speaking to the media, Mammootty opened up about receiving the honour and his experience at the awards ceremony. As quoted by ANI, he said, "I am very happy to have received the award. I dedicate the award to Malayalam cinema and Malayalam audiences.

The award ceremony held in Gujarat was a new experience. I saw the Statue of Unity in Gujarat. It was good."

Mammootty shares Best Actor honour with Kartik Aaryan

Mammootty shared the Best Actor award with Kartik Aaryan at the 72nd National Film Awards. Kartik Aaryan was recognised for his performance in Kabir Khan's 'Chandu Champion'. Mammootty won for his portrayal of Kodumon Potti in 'Bramayugam'. Rahul Sadasivan directed the Malayalam film, which earned Mammootty his fourth National Film Award for the role.

The 72nd National Film Awards ceremony was held on September 22 at Ekta Nagar in Gujarat, close to the Statue of Unity. The event also marked the first time that the National Film Awards ceremony was conducted outside New Delhi.

Yami Gautam, 'Article 370' among other winners

Several other prominent names and films were recognised at this year's National Film Awards. Yami Gautam received the Best Actress award for 'Article 370'.The film also won Best Feature Film. Meanwhile, 'Kalki 2898 AD' was honoured in the Best Feature Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment category.Dhanush's 'Raayan' was named Best Tamil Film, while 'Srikanth' received the Best Hindi Film award. 'Feminichi Fathima' was recognised as Best Malayalam Film, and 'Committee Kurrollu' won Best Telugu Film.

Rajkumar Periasamy wins Best Director for 'Amaran'

Rajkumar Periasamy was another major winner at the ceremony. The filmmaker received the Best Director award for his work on the Tamil film 'Amaran'. President Droupadi Murmu presented the honour to Rajkumar Periasamy during the ceremony in Gujarat. 'Amaran' featured Siva Karthikeyan in the lead role and was produced in association with Kamal Haasan.The film follows the story of Major Mukund Varadarajan and stars Siva Karthikeyan and Sai Pallavi in the lead roles.

Kamal Haasan congratulates Rajkumar Periasamy

Kamal Haasan later congratulated Rajkumar Periasamy on the National Film Award. The actor-producer shared a photograph with the filmmaker on X, with Rajkumar Periasamy seen holding his National Film Award medal.Kamal Haasan praised the director while sharing the photograph. He wrote, "Happy & Proud of Rajkumar Periasamy. Excellent work and a well-earned National Honour."Rajkumar Periasamy is now preparing for his next directorial venture, 'OM: Chapter 1'. The upcoming film stars Dhanush and Mammootty in the lead roles. The makers announced on Wednesday that the release date had been postponed.
