The incident sparked a coming together between both sets of players and once referee Michael Salisbury restored some calm over proceedings, he brandished the red card in the teenager’s direction.

Dowman was visibly shocked upon seeing the colour of the card, immediately pulling his shirt over his head before making his way down the tunnel - where he was given an earful from manager Mikel Arteta.

While, the 16-year-old was sent-off in a Carabao Cup tie, it has been confirmed his suspension will be carried over into the Premier League.

“Premier League yellow cards are not carried over to the EFL Cup or FA Cup,” a statement via the Premier League’s official website reads. “But when players receive a red card, they ARE carried over to - and from - the domestic cup competitions.”

How many Arsenal games will Max Dowman miss?

Due to Dowman being sent-off for violent conduct, his punishment is a three-match suspension which is to be served immediately.

Therefore, Dowman will be unavailable for selection in Arsenal’s next fixture which is against Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.

The youngster will also sit out both of the Gunners’ Premier League matches either side of the November international break - at home to Hull on November 7 and away at Newcastle a fortnight later.

As domestic bans do not carry over into European competitions, Dowman can be selected for Arsenal’s Champions League clash against Slavia Praha next Wednesday but can next play in the Premier League from November 29 when Manchester City visit the Emirates Stadium.
