Eskom schedules 12-hour power outage in Cape Town

The City of Cape Town has announced a planned 12-hour power outage by Eskom to allow for essential maintenance and upgrades to its electricity infrastructure.

According to the metropolitan municipality, the scheduled outage will be carried out from 06:30 on Monday, 21 September, until 18:30 the same day, if all goes according to plan. 

ESKOM TO IMPLEMENT 12-HOUR POWER OUTAGE IN CAPE TOWN

The City of Cape Town said all residential areas in Gordon’s Bay will be affected due to the scheduled critical electricity maintenance.

“Please note that this maintenance is being conducted on Eskom infrastructure, which will directly affect the electricity supply to Gordon’s Bay within the City of Cape Town’s distribution region,” the municipality said.

“The electricity supply could be restored at any time and customers must please treat all electrical installations as live for the full duration of the planned upgrade work. Residents are encouraged to switch off appliances as a precaution to avoid damage caused by power surges when the power comes back on. The City apologises for any inconvenience caused and thanks residents for their cooperation,” it added.

OTHER PLANNED MAINTENANCE

Similarly, the City of Cape Town has also scheduled a ten-hour power outage to allow for essential maintenance and upgrades to its electricity infrastructure.

According to the metropolitan municipality, the scheduled outage will be carried out from 22:00 on Saturday, 19 September, until 08:00 the next day, 20 September, if all goes according to plan. Alternatively, the work will be carried out from 22:00 on Saturday, 26 September 2026, to 08:00 on Sunday, 27 September 2026.
