Anthropic posts $8B operating loss in 2025 as accounting charges drive net loss to $42B

Translate

Anthropic (ANTHRO) reported a headline net loss of $42B for 2025, but most of that figure comes from paper accounting adjustments rather than cash spent, according to financial reports first disclosed by Reuters and analyzed by Tradr ETFs (@TradrETFs) on X.

Approximately 80% of the net loss ($34B) was a non-cash accounting charge. This charge occurred because the value of convertible notes issued to investors grew alongside the startup’s surging valuation.

In reality, Anthropic's core operating loss was $8B, driven primarily by $7.33B in compute and infrastructure costs alongside R&D expenses.

As analysts noted, the $42B headline net loss makes the company look far more cash-depleted than it actually is.
