MIkel Oyarzabal scored a late winner as world champion Spain began its UEFA Nations League 2026-27 campaign with a thrilling comeback victory against England.
It was a clinical display from Spain, which is undefeated in 39 games, taking advantage of multiple errors at the back from Thomas Tuchel’s side.
Luis de la Fuente’s side rushed into an early lead as Lamine Yamal took advantage of an error from Marc Guehi to put it ahead just two minutes into the match.

England rode its luck through much of the first half, but entered a lead after Anthony Gordon and Harry Kane found the net in quick succession towards the end of the first 45.
Gordon levelled after running clear and sloting past Unai Simon, before Kane’s deflected header gave the FIFA World Cup 2026 semifinalist the lead four minutes later.
Jude Bellingham was fouled inside the box 10 minutes after the restart, but Kane slipped while taking his penalty and fired onto the bar.
Spain’s equaliser came through Alex Baena, who took advantage of a mistake from Nico O’Reilly before Oyarzabal lifted a delicate finish over James Trafford to seal the win with 16 minutes left in the game.
