We do get to touch on that right out of the gate, at the beginning of the season. It's one of the things I loved about how we jumped into the revival last year: the decision to have this example of Turk and Carla as a marriage that went the distance, and that it really worked out for, and then to have JD and Elliot be divorced.

[I like] the room that gives the two of them to figure out co-parenting and being divorced and, really throughout that first season, they're figuring out who are they going to be to each other. That journey is not over; they're still figuring out their footing. And obviously, with Charlie coming into the picture, played by the beautiful Rachel Bilson, that continues right from the jump in season 2. I think Elliot starts to look at that and go, "Okay, maybe I do want that. Maybe I do want something like that."

Chalke's comments suggest that Charlie's presence won't simply create tension between JD and Elliot. But also that the new relationship appears to serve as a catalyst for Elliot's own personal growth. After spending much of season 1 adjusting to life after divorce, Elliot will begin to examine what she wants from her future as she watches JD build a new romance.

Chalke’s comments highlight one of the revival's most interesting creative decisions. Instead of centering on JD and Elliot finding their way back to each other, Scrubs has focused on the realities of co-parenting after divorce and redefining a relationship after a marriage ends. Scrubs revival season 2 is set to premiere on September 30 with a two-episode launch on ABC, picking up after the events of the first season. The latest trailer confirms that J.D., Turk, and Elliot remain at the center of the series as they mentor the next generation of doctors at Sacred Heart.

The footage also teases a deeper focus on Dr. Cox's health struggles after his autoimmune disease diagnosis in season 1, while J.D. continues his relationship with Charlie and navigates his evolving role as both a doctor and mentor. The new season will also bring back several familiar faces from the original series, most notably Scott Foley as Elliot's former boyfriend Sean. Sean's return will shake up Elliot's life just as she appears to be finding her footing following her divorce from J.D.

For longtime Scrubs fans, Chalke’s comments offer a clearer picture of where the revival is heading next. Season 1 established JD and Elliot's new status quo, but season 2 will continue exploring the evolving dynamic between the former spouses. While they may still be finding their footing as co-parents and friends, her comments suggest that both characters are moving into a new phase of their lives.
