Roy Keane sends message to Manchester United fans after Aston Villa draw

Roy Keane has sent a message to Manchester United fans after Sunday's 4-4 draw with Aston Villa left the club in the Premier League relegation zone.

The build-up to the game at Old Trafford was dominated by speculation over Michael Carrick's future as manager and a planned fan protest against the club ownership.

Green and gold balloons - which are symbolic of the club's past - were seen in the Stretford End and then a banner was unfurled with read: "We don't want a new stadium, we want new owners."

On the pitch, Man Utd found themselves 2-0 down after four minutes, and then 4-2 down before the hour mark, but the players were applauded off by some on Sunday after a thrilling fightback.

Whether the point is enough for Carrick to keep his job remains to be seen, with Man Utd languishing in 18th place in the standings.

But the main focus of the supporters' ire was the Glazers, co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe and director of football Jason Wilcox.

Speaking after the game, Keane acknowledged and praised the fans.

"Manchester United fans get criticised a lot, but I think United fans are really fair supporters, I really do," he said on Sky Sports.

"They're fair with the players. We saw at the Bournemouth game the players were getting booed off. They gave them a round of applause here because the players gave a little bit of something back.
