‘Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York)’ Sets Broadway Closing Date

Translate

Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York) will play its final performance Nov. 29 after one year on Broadway.

The two-hander musical, about a British man enthusiastically visiting New York for the first time and connecting with a cynical New Yorker, opened at the Longacre Theatre on Nov. 20, 2025, after runs in Boston and London’s West End. Sam Tutty and Christiani Pitts have starred in the show throughout its Broadway run.

The closure of the show comes as gross and attendance for the show have been trending down over the last several months, with the show recently reporting 70 percent capacity and grosses around or under $500,000. The musical was nominated for eight Tony Awards, including best musical and nods for Tutty and Pitts, but did not take home any trophies.

The show was written and composed by Jim Barne and Kit Buchan, and directed and choreographed by Tony Award nominee Tim Jackson. The first national tour of the show will launch in Providence, Rhode Island in fall 2027. The musical is produced on Broadway by Kevin McCollum (Six, Oh, Mary!), Tim Johanson, Glass Half Full Productions, and Jamie Wilson Productions.

Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York) is an incredibly special, original piece of storytelling, and an unabashed love letter to New York City,” said the producers. “Bringing this show to Broadway was a leap of faith, and audiences met us with open arms. We’re forever grateful to Tim, Kit, Jim, and the entire creative team for their beautiful work, and to the extraordinary cast – led by Christiani & Sam – and crew, for carrying the cake every night at the Longacre. We cannot wait to tour this spectacular production across the country next year on its first national tour.”
