Leaders extend unbeaten run after Lagos draw

Barau FC maintained their unbeaten start to the Nigeria Premier Football League season after being held to a 1-1 draw by Sporting Lagos at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena on Saturday, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

 The Maliya Boys, who arrived in Lagos on the back of a 2-0 victory over Abia Warriors on Matchday 5, took the lead through Joseph Atule, who converted from the penalty spot in the 34th minute.

 Barau had also completed their final training session at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena on Friday as they looked to build on their impressive start to the campaign.

 Sporting Lagos responded after the break, with Sodiqu restoring parity in the 60th minute as both sides settled for a share of the points.

 The result means Barau have now gone six matches without defeat, recording three wins and three draws to move to 12 points from a possible 18.

 The Maliya Boys have emerged as one of the surprise packages of the early NPFL season, with Saturday’s draw extending their impressive run.

 Sporting Lagos had also entered the encounter on the back of a 3-2 away victory over nine-time champions Enyimba at the Aba Township Stadium on Matchday 5, but they were unable to claim another three points at home.

 Barau will now seek to extend their unbeaten run when the NPFL continues, while Sporting Lagos will look to return to winning ways in their next fixture.
