Regardless of the fact that it had been leaked prior to its official announcement and extended look at gameplay, God of War Laufey was fairly unprecedented, and few fans might’ve expected it to be what we saw next from the franchise, especially considering that an Atreus-led game still seems plausible. That said, God of War Laufey is brimming with mythological influences and finally indulges in an intriguing character who we’ve only seen and heard so little of throughout God of War and God of War Ragnarök.

God of War Laufey will be PlayStation’s first big game of 2027, and official information concerning its pre-orders, special editions, and gameplay was recently unveiled. Here’s everything you need to know about God of War Laufey.

God Of War Laufey Release Date

God of War Laufey is scheduled to be released on February 16, 2027. This release date sandwiches it between two early-2027 heavy hitters, Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis and Fable, with all three of these highly anticipated games trying their best to avoid the blast zone of Grand Theft Auto 6 this holiday season.

God Of War Laufey Pre-Orders

God of War Laufey pre-orders officially go live on September 29 at 10 AM local time. The game’s pre-order bonuses include:

Two editions are available for God of War Laufey: the Standard edition, which is available both physically (with disc) and digitally; and the Digital Deluxe edition, which includes the following digital goodies:

God of War Laufey’s official pricing has not yet been revealed. However, with pre-orders going live tomorrow, we’re sure to find out rather soon how much the Standard and Digital Deluxe editions will cost.

God Of War Laufey Platforms

With Santa Monica being a first-party PlayStation studio, God of War Laufey will be exclusive to PS5 when it is released. God of War and God of War Ragnarök are console exclusives that eventually made their way to PC, though, and it’s possible that God of War Laufey will eventually arrive there at some point in the future, too.

God Of War Laufey Gameplay

God of War Laufey’s combat echoes the same weighty, crunchy fluidity that Kratos and Atreus’ gameplay possess. Meanwhile, God of War Laufey emphasizes air-juggling and assists from the gelatinous Phranque and ribbony Rue, who is tethered to the enigmatic sword Faye wields.

Revealed today, Faye will also wield the Serpent Bow. This enchanted bow can be aimed down sights for precision or hip-fired to extend combos or unleash a cluster of high-damage, close-range arrows, depending on if the aim trigger is fully or half-pressed, respectively. Plus, the bow’s Scales are customizable in both their cosmetic appearance and the unique perks that players can tailor their preferred playstyle around.

Faye’s armor and the sword’s Blade, as well as Catalysts, can also be customized to a similar effect. Catalysts are described as “powerful artifacts capable of channeling the potent magic of the Everywhen,” as per PlayStation.Blog.

God Of War Laufey Story Details

God of War Laufey’s story surprisingly isn’t a prequel about Laufey/Faye’s exploits before her death, but a narrative that apparently runs concurrently with the events of God of War and God of War Ragnarök. This should give it a number of fun opportunities to illustrate how Faye might’ve helped Kratos and Atreus along their journey, reflecting on some of these two Norse mythology games’ most poignant moments.

We also know that God of War Laufey takes place in the Everywhen, an afterlife of the gods that marries any and all ancient mythologies in a giant melting pot. Because of this, it’s possible that Faye could encounter the Greek gods whom Kratos had slain, including his father, Zeus.

For the moment, that’s precisely everything we know about God of War Laufey, let alone everything we can surmise from what’s been teased or revealed via the initial announcement gameplay trailer. There may yet be a dedicated PlayStation State of Play s in store or an appearance at The Game Awards 2026, with God of War Laufey dodging a busy end to 2026.
