Bali Airport's flights to NTToperating normally after quake

Denpasar, Bali (ANTARA) - Flights between Bali’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport and East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) were operating normally Saturday after a magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck the province.

The earthquake struck 30 kilometers (18.6 miles) northeast of Nagekeo District at 5:58 a.m. Central Indonesia Time (WITA; GMT+8). Its initial magnitude of 7.0 was later revised to 7.7.

The epicenter was about 685 kilometers (426 miles) from Bali’s Kuta area, where the airport is located.

“We can confirm that flight operations and airport services at I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport are running normally and optimally,” airport spokesman Gede Eka Sandi Asmadi said Saturday.

He said normal operations continued from the time of the earthquake through at least noon WITA.

Regular NTT routes from the airport include Labuan Bajo and Tambolaka.

Airlines serving the routes include AirAsia, Garuda Indonesia, Citilink, Batik Air, Lion Air, Super Air Jet and Wings Air.

The Labuan Bajo route averages nine daily departures and eight arrivals, while Tambolaka has two arrivals and three departures each day.

The earthquake did not disrupt airport operations, leaving air access to the affected province open, Asmadi said.

“There have been no flight cancellations,” he added.

The airport management expressed condolences and concern for residents of Nagekeo and surrounding areas affected by the earthquake.
