Indonesia deports Filipino national for violating stay permit

Tanjab Barat, Jambi (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Tanjung Jabung Barat Immigration Office in Jambi Province has deported a 34-year-old Filipino national for violating the terms of his stay permit, an immigration official said.

"We took action because he engaged in activities inconsistent with the purpose of his stay permit. Following an investigation, he was deported from Indonesia," Tanjung Jabung Barat Immigration Office Head Andriw Guntur Suryadarma Simanjuntak said.

The case began after immigration intelligence and enforcement officers received information about the Filipino national's presence in Kuala Tungkal on Wednesday (Sept. 9), he said here Monday.

At around 7 a.m., officers monitored the foreign national's activities near his accommodation.

At around 10:30 a.m., officers saw him leave the accommodation with a local resident in a car. They then traveled to a site operated by an internet network company in Kuala Tungkal.

Officers monitored and examined the foreign national's presence and activities after arriving at the site.

Based on their investigation, officers found discrepancies between ARV's activities and the stated purpose of his stay permit, Andriw said.

The findings were subsequently used as the basis for further investigation and immigration enforcement, he said.

Following the investigation, the Tanjung Jabung Barat Immigration Office decided to deport the foreign national for allegedly abusing his stay permit.

The action was taken under Article 122(a) of Indonesia's 2011 Immigration Law, as amended several times, which prohibits activities inconsistent with the purpose for which a stay permit was granted.

"We deported him last week, on Sept. 17. The deportation was carried out as part of immigration law enforcement and oversight of foreign nationals' presence and activities in Indonesia," Andriw said.
