Crystal Palace set to sack Pierre Sage with club bottom of Premier League

Translate

Palace plummeted to the bottom of the Premier League table on Sunday afternoon, losing for the fourth league game running as Liverpool visited Selhurst Park.

Sage has been under serious pressure for weeks, but Palace’s chiefs are now expected to pull the trigger just 10 games into the league season with the club rock bottom heading into the international break.

Brought in as Oliver Glasner’s successor over the summer on a three-year deal, Sage has struggled to get his ideas across. Palace have the worst defensive record in the Premier League and have won just two of their opening 10 league games.

Sage’s difficult start at Palace has been attributed partly to the departure of several key players and problems with recruitment, but defensive weaknesses have also raised concerns about his tactical approach.

Following Sunday's game, Sage insisted he remained focused on improving the team rather than worrying about his own position.

When asked whether he expected to remain in charge after the international break, he replied: "Better than you, I think."

He also said: "Today my job is not the most important thing, as I always said from the beginning. The most important thing is to find an efficient solution for the team and the club."
