Fallout fans have recently received some exciting updates on the future of the franchise, with Bethesda finally shedding light on several major projects currently in development. Most notably, the studio confirmed that Fallout 5 is officially in preproduction, although the studio is still hyper-focused on The Elder Scrolls 6, which means the long-awaited sequel probably won't arrive until the 2030s. That said, Bethesda hasn't announced an official release window, and gamers are keeping their fingers crossed for an early arrival.

Fortunately, there's plenty more to look forward to in the meantime. Bethesda also confirmed remasters of Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas, alongside an entirely new Fallout project from Obsidian Entertainment. Meanwhile, Fallout 76 is getting its major Raven Rock expansion in 2027, which will serve as a narrative prequel to Fallout 3.

And while Fallout 5 remains years away, fans can look forward to another new RPG experience arriving in June 2027 (via icv2).

Fallout is officially returning to the tabletop on June 25, 2027, with the retail release of the Fallout: Wasteland Warfare Warbands Starter Set from Modiphius Entertainment. The new set will retail for $165, slightly higher than the $160 price originally announced in August 2026, and features a ton of unique new miniatures and other exciting components.

While not a traditional tabletop RPG, Wasteland Warfare incorporates plenty of role-playing elements into its miniature-based combat system, allowing players to experience the post-apocalyptic universe in a completely different format from Bethesda's video games.

Originally launched in 2018, Fallout: Wasteland Warfare is a tabletop miniatures game built around tactical combat, character progression, and "exploration." Modiphius announced a revamped second edition in 2025, introducing streamlined mechanics and a popular new solo mode. The upcoming Warbands Starter Set is specifically designed for newcomers, providing everything necessary to begin playing without purchasing an extensive collection of additional miniatures or rulebooks.

Unlike conventional tabletop RPGs that require GM, Wasteland Warfare lets players explore the wasteland independently, cooperatively, or against one another without one. The new set introduces two opposing factions, Survivors and Super Mutants, complete with miniatures representing some of the franchise's most recognizable characters and enemies.

Players can assemble their own warbands, undertake quests, and engage in combat encounters that influence how their stories unfold. Decisions made throughout a campaign will have an impact on the rest of the game, while players can explore the area to uncover threats, find new opportunities, and collect resources.

The gameplay also incorporates familiar Fallout mechanics, including recruiting companions, upgrading equipment, and developing a reputation which will unlock new opportunities. Players can even encounter recognizable characters and NPCs from the video games as their campaigns progress.

As for the starter set itself, it's a substantial package with everything needed to recreate the wasteland in miniature form, including the following:

  • Fallout: Wasteland Warfare core rulebook
  • Fallout: Wasteland Warfare core reference book
  • Warbands quickstart guide
  • 13 custom engraved dice
  • 207 gameplay tokens
  • 23 double-sided enemy tokens
  • 7 sheets of punch-out cardboard terrain
  • Double-sided paper battle mat (wasteland and forest)
  • 13 reference sheets
  • 1 warband roster
  • 1 campaign journal
  • 1 campaign map
  • 10 preassembled PVC Survivor miniatures
  • 8 preassembled PVC Super Mutant miniatures
  • 1 preassembled Sole Survivor in T-45 power armor PVC miniature
  • 1 preassembled Mister Handy PVC miniature
  • 1 preassembled Super Mutant "The Ravager" PVC miniature
  • 1 preassembled Super Mutant hound in armor "The Mutt" PVC miniature

Altogether, the package includes 22 preassembled miniatures, meaning players won't need to construct their characters before beginning, although the figures are supplied unpainted. Fans interested in picking up the new release can find additional information on the official Modiphius website, although the starter set is currently listed as unavailable for preorder directly through the publisher's online store.

While Fallout 5 remains a distant prospect, the new Warbands Starter Set should provide an interesting alternative for fans who want to create their own stories in Bethesda's iconic post-apocalyptic universe.
