LeBron James answered with one word and a row of clapping hands. Tyrese Maxey had just been named the Eastern Conference Player of the Week, and his Philadelphia 76ers teammate joined the celebration. The NBA announced the award on Monday, October 26, after the opening week of the season. Memphis Grizzlies guard Ty Jerome took the Western Conference honor for the same stretch. The Sixers are 3-1, though their latest game ended in a loss to the Detroit Pistons. Maxey did plenty in only four games to earn the award.

What Did LeBron James Write After Tyrese Maxey Earned Player Of The Week Honors?

LeBron James reshared the Philadelphia Sixers' official announcement on Instagram and added a short note. “YESSIR!!!!!!,” he wrote, adding nine clapping emoticons.

The reaction is brief, but it comes from a teammate with a front-row seat. Maxey has stayed at point guard next to the team's new stars, and he has run pick-and-rolls with James as the screener.

The award covers Week 1 of the 2026-27 season, which makes Maxey the first Eastern Conference player honored this year. It was certainly a huge accolade for the 25-year-old guard.

How Good Has Tyrese Maxey Been For The 76ers This Season?

The 25-year-old guard averaged 28.8 points, 4.0 rebounds, 4.8 assists, 2.0 steals and 1.0 blocks over the first four games, playing 37.8 minutes a night. Philadelphia won its first three before the Detroit loss.

Maxey opened against the Knicks with 28 points on 47.4 percent shooting and five assists in just under 40 minutes. Against Cleveland, he topped 30 for the first time, added a season-high six assists and shot better than 50 percent. He then led Philadelphia in scoring against both Milwaukee and Detroit.

Only 30.0 percent of Maxey's threes have dropped, yet his true shooting percentage sits at 57.3. He has made 70.4 percent of his shots within three feet and buried tough pull-ups and floaters along the way. He also works off the ball next to the new stars, and in transition he attacks downhill for acrobatic finishes.

He improved as a defender last season and has kept going this year, chasing players down on drives and breaking up passing lanes. Those plays help explain the Sixers' fifth-ranked defense.
