Paul McCartney has shared a funny detail about Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s wedding, and it involves one of The Beatles’ most famous love songs.During his recent appearance on 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!', McCartney spoke about performing 'I Want To Hold Your Hand' at Swift and Kelce’s wedding reception.

The song was reportedly chosen after Swift herself asked the former Beatle to perform it.

McCartney then came up with a playful idea: he suggested Swift should sing along and dedicate the song to Kelce.“I said, you should sing along, and you should sing it to your man,” McCartney recalled on the show. The comment got a laugh from the audience.

Taylor Swift had asked McCartney to perform the Beatles classic

McCartney, 84, performed 'I Want To Hold Your Hand' during the wedding celebrations at Madison Square Garden in New York City on July 3.

The performance was especially notable because the Beatles song had not been performed publicly by McCartney for more than six decades. The song dates back to 1963 and was written by McCartney and John Lennon. It became one of the Beatles’ biggest early hits and their first US No. 1 single.

So, hearing McCartney perform it at Swift’s wedding gave the classic a completely new setting.Swift and McCartney have also known each other for years. McCartney attended one of Swift’s Eras Tour shows at Wembley Stadium in 2024, while Swift later attended one of McCartney’s intimate concerts in Los Angeles.

Their connection goes beyond simply sharing the same stage, too. In a May 2026 BBC Radio 2 interview, McCartney spoke warmly about Swift and said he could see similarities between the worldwide attention she receives and the fame The Beatles experienced.“She’s clever,” McCartney said while discussing Swift and other younger female artists. He also said he would be happy to give her advice if she ever asked, although he added that he did not think she needed it.

Did Taylor Swift actually sing with Paul McCartney?

That part remains less clear.McCartney's comment suggests he encouraged Swift to join him, but the PEOPLE report does not confirm that she actually performed the song alongside him. So, for now, it is safer to say that the duet was suggested rather than confirmed. There was, however, another singer from the Kelce family who apparently got involved in the wedding celebrations.Travis Kelce’s brother Jason Kelce later talked about his singing during an episode of the 'Ross Tucker Football Podcast' in July.

When asked about Travis’ vocals, Jason made it clear that his younger brother can carry a tune.“Yeah, Trav can sing,” Jason said. He also added that Travis did okay compared with the other singers at the wedding. Jason’s comments came after reports that Travis and Swift sang together during their wedding celebrations. His appearance on the podcast provides the primary source for his remarks about his brother’s singing.

'I Want To Hold Your Hand' gets a new wedding memory

For McCartney, the performance was also a return to one of the songs that helped make The Beatles a global phenomenon.'I Want To Hold Your Hand' was released in 1963 and quickly became a huge success. It topped the charts in the US and became an important part of the band's early rise to worldwide fame. The song was last performed by The Beatles in New York in September 1964, according to records compiled by the Paul McCartney Project.

That makes its appearance at Swift and Kelce’s wedding a little more special. A song first written and recorded more than six decades ago suddenly found itself being played at one of the most talked-about celebrity weddings of 2026.Stevie Nicks also performed during the wedding celebrations, adding another major music name to the evening. McCartney’s performance, though, carried its own bit of history because of his connection to the song. And then there was McCartney’s little suggestion to Swift.Whether she actually sang along with him or simply enjoyed hearing one of The Beatles’ biggest love songs performed at her wedding, his joke added a fun moment to the story.
