Per Deadline, A24's Elden Ring movie is going to the American Film Market. They report that the project's budget is between $175 and $200 million, which makes it the most expensive standalone project to be put up for sale at any film or television market in history. The project, which is currently in post-production, has already had many of its international pay-1 streaming rights picked up by Amazon MGM Studios. This deal reportedly involved the studio spending tens of millions of dollars.
Pay-1 rights mean that Amazon MGM holds the rights to the movie when it first becomes available on subscription streaming in the selected territories, following its theatrical and premium video on demand window. While pay-1 rights can also include pay-per-view television, it seems likely that Amazon MGM will funnel Elden Ring to their proprietary streaming service, Prime Video, during the window outlined by the agreement.
A24 already has a pay-1 deal with HBO in the United States, so it's possible that Elden Ring is already set for an HBO Max debut in the U.S. if it falls under the purview of the multi-year deal the two companies signed this January.
