Gui Santos gave Golden State Warriors fans some good news after leaving Saturday's 131-122 loss to the Phoenix Suns with a left knee injury. The forward walked to the locker room in the third quarter and did not return, leaving fans worried about his condition. However, ESPN reporter Anthony Slater later shared an update from Santos, who said the injury was a minor knee tweak. He also felt he would not be out for long, if he missed any games at all. The update comes as the Warriors look for their first win of the 2026-27 NBA season. They will face the Denver Nuggets on Monday, and Santos' status for that game is still unclear.
Gui Santos Leaves Game With Left Knee Pain
Santos was playing in place of Draymond Green, who missed the game because of lower-back soreness. He played 23 minutes before leaving with the knee problem.
Reporters noticed Santos struggling with his left leg during the game. Joseph Dycus wrote: “Santos appears to be in pain and is stretching out and flexing his left leg at the free throw line. Trying to walk it off between free throws.”
Luca Evans also reported: “Gui Santos came up limping a bit after drawing that foul. Shaky on that left leg. Made 1/2 and is trying to work it off.”
Santos left the court in the third quarter and did not return. The injury also worried Warriors fans, who questioned whether he should have continued playing while limping.
One fan wrote, “Gui santos is scaring me unfortunately.”
Another wrote, “Total concern for Gui Santos. The only SF with decent height on the Warriors today, he left in the middle of the game with pain. Without him, they'll have to put up with that brute Steve Kerr forcing lineups with 4 guards until the end. And worse, there'll be even more George Niang for you guys.”
One more fan asked, “does steve kerr not plan on taking gui santos out? he's clearly injured,” while another said, “Gui Santos needs to take a seat because he's limping right now. He is not okay.”
Gui Santos Shares Injury Update Before Warriors Face Nuggets
The news after the game was more encouraging. Anthony Slater shared Santos' update about the injury.
“Gui Santos said it was just a left knee tweak. Nothing serious. Had a slight limp but felt it'd be a short absence, if he even misses time.”
Luca Evans also spoke with Santos and shared what he learned.
“Talked to Gui Santos briefly postgame. Left knee, little tendon thing, didn't sound serious. Maybe will miss a game. It flared up in Q3, he went to locker room and didn't return.”
Santos finished the game with seven points, four rebounds and three assists. He made one of his four shots from the field, including one of two three-point attempts, and converted four of eight free throws.
The Warriors were also without Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, Al Horford and Brandin Podziemski. Devin Booker scored 43 points for Phoenix, while rookie Yaxel Lendeborg led Golden State with 26 points.
The Warriors will take on the Denver Nuggets on Monday, October 26. Santos' update is a positive sign, but his availability will depend on how his knee feels before the game.
