The Muppet Christmas Carol gets a remake with Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Fallout stars

A new take on the beloved festive cult The Muppet Christmas Carol has been unveiled, with two stars from Brooklyn 99 and Fallout joining Muppets classic characters, including Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy.
Brooklyn 99's Stephanie Beatriz and Fallout's Walton Goggins star in the holiday campaign of US retail giant Walmart. Hailed as "a new carol", the first musical short in the store chain's promotional slate sets the scene for Goggins' very own Ebenezer Scrooge, while Beatriz, who also voiced protagonist Mirabel in Disney's Encanto, plays the austere businessman's niece.
The 2-minute A Who Knew Carol clip, available on YouTube, boils some anachronisms down to "the magic of Christmas", as The Great Gonzo tells Rizzo the Rat when the latter points out that there was "no Walmart" during A Christmas Carol.

"She wasn't in the original," Rizzo continues as Beatriz's character strolls around the Victorian London-like set lamenting about her miserable uncle Scrooge.
"Neither was I," Pepe the King Prawn hits back.
"It's called giving the people what they want, okay?" he adds, raising his claws to reveal multiple Walmart shopping bags.
Of course, it wouldn't be an adaptation, however loose, of Charles Dickens' novella if Scrooge didn't utter his iconic, grumpy line. And Goggins, also known for his role on The White Lotus season 3, gladly goes along with the Christmas takedown, leaning out of a window and yelling "Bah, humbug!".

The video kicks off a larger campaign, with more clips and social content to follow.
"A Who Knew Carol brings Walmart's holiday campaign to life in a way that's playful, memorable and full of unexpected surprises all season long," chief marketing officer William White said in a statement.
"By pairing the enduring charm of The Muppets with Walton Goggins' humor, we're showing that Walmart can surprise customers with the brands, gifts, deals and convenience they need to make the season even more joyful."
