The Yobe State Government has disclosed that it provides 800 free dialysis sessions monthly to patients suffering from chronic kidney disease as part of efforts to improve access to specialised healthcare and reduce the cost of treatment.

The Chief Medical Director of Yobe State University Teaching Hospital, Prof. Baba Waru Goni, disclosed this  while presenting the hospital’s progress report on major healthcare interventions to the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Mohammed Goje.

Goni said the intervention was part of the state government’s support for patients living with chronic kidney disease, many of whom require regular dialysis to manage their condition.

He said the provision of free dialysis sessions had helped ease the financial burden on patients and their families.

“The state government is providing 800 free dialysis sessions monthly to support patients living with chronic kidney disease and reduce the financial burden of treatment,” he said.

The CMD also disclosed that the hospital offers Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Computed Tomography scan services at affordable rates, attracting patients from different states across the region and beyond.

‎‎He said the hospital’s diagnostic services had improved access to essential medical investigations, enabling patients to obtain specialised healthcare at comparatively affordable rates.

‎‎Goni commended the state government for its support, noting that continued investment in specialised medical services was necessary to strengthen the hospital’s capacity to meet the healthcare needs of residents.

‎‎Goje commended the management and medical personnel of the teaching hospital and other health institutions in the state for their efforts to expand access to specialised healthcare services.

‎‎He said the government recognised the financial and emotional burden that chronic kidney disease placed on patients and their families.

‎‎“The government recognises the challenges faced by patients living with chronic kidney disease and their families. We will continue to support initiatives that make essential healthcare services more accessible and affordable,” Goje said.

‎‎The SSG assured the hospital management of the state government’s continued support, saying the administration of Governor Mai Mala Buni remained committed to strengthening healthcare institutions and improving service delivery.

‎‎He urged the management to ensure the effective utilisation of available resources and sustain standards of care while improving diagnostic and treatment services to meet growing demand.

‎‎Goje also called on the hospital to build on its progress through improved institutional capacity, efficient service delivery and strategic partnerships to expand access to specialised healthcare.

‎‎He said the government’s investment in the health sector was aimed at improving the wellbeing of residents, reducing medical expenses for families and ensuring access to essential healthcare services within the state.
