Pastor Victor Kanyari Explains Why He Paid Ksh 1 Million For Bahati and Diana’s Wedding

Translate

Controversial city preacher Prophet Victor Kanyari has clarified why he reversed his decision and paid Ksh 1 million for an invitation to gospel-turned-secular singer Bahati and Diana Marua’s upcoming wedding, just days after publicly criticizing the steep ticket price.

Addressing his congregation on Sunday, October 18, 2026, Kanyari revealed that a personal meeting with Bahati, coupled with their long shared history, prompted him to alter his stance.

The preacher had previously raised eyebrows by questioning why guests were being charged Ksh 1 million to attend a wedding. However, he explained that his early role in launching Bahati’s music career ultimately outweighed his initial objections.

“Nilikua nimesema sitaenda harusi ya Bahati maana anacharge 1 milioni. Lakini mimi nilitoa hiyo 1 milioni ya Bahati,” Kanyari told his congregants. “Wimbo yake ya kwanza ya ‘Mama’ mimi ndio nilimtolea.”

A Personal Plea and Past Ties

According to Kanyari, Bahati personally visited his office to appeal to him, reminding the preacher of the foundational support he provided before the artist rose to mainstream fame or met his wife, Diana.

“Wakati alikuja kwa ofisi yangu akanibembeleza, akaniambia, akanikumbusha, nikaona, ‘Eh, wacha nitoe hiyo pesa kwa sababu… is my friend,'” Kanyari added, emphasizing that personal loyalty ultimately drove his financial support for the couple’s milestone.

Addressing critics who pointed out the glaring contradiction between his public criticism and subsequent purchase, Kanyari acknowledged that changing his mind is part of his character. He noted that those familiar with him understand he can initially take a firm stance against something before later reconsidering.

An Exclusive Event

The couple announced on October 7, 2026—while celebrating a decade together—that their November 6, 2026 wedding would be strictly capped at 100 guests, with each seat valued at Ksh 1 million.

Following their meeting on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, Bahati shared a video on social media confirming Kanyari as the first clergyman to purchase the exclusive invitation card. Taking to Instagram, the singer reflected on their decade-long relationship, expressing gratitude to the preacher for purchasing the ticket despite their years apart.
