MANILA, Philippines — The University of the Philippines-Philippine General Hospital (UP-PGH) has been recognized by the World Stroke Organization (WSO) as the Philippines’ first and only Advanced Stroke Center, citing the hospital’s adherence to evidence-based global standards for stroke care.

In a statement, UP-PGH said the recognition was given through its Department of Neurosciences and Endovascular Team, which can “provide free thrombolysis and mechanical thrombectomy.”

“UP-PGH has consistently demonstrated its distinction in world-class stroke care, from emergency to nursing and rehabilitation,” the hospital said.

The hospital said the recognition followed its receipt of the WSO Angels Diamond Award for Excellent Stroke Care from the second quarter of 2025 through the first quarter of 2026, followed by a Gold Award in the second quarter of 2026.

According to UP-PGH, the awards represent the highest level of recognition given by the WSO to hospitals and health care teams for excellence in stroke care.

“This recognition underscores UP-PGH’s steadfast commitment to providing top-tier, comprehensive, and accessible stroke care to patients across the country,” the hospital said. /mcm
