Soon Huat-Shevon clear Asian Games opening round
Mixed doubles shuttlers Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai Jemie scored a convincing victory over their Taiwanese rivals in the opening round of the Asian Games 2026 individual event.
The husband-and-wife pair, ranked No 10 in the world, took just 28 minutes to beat Taiwan’s world No 12 duo Yang Po Hsuan-Hu Ling Fang 21-14, 21-11.
The Malaysian duo, making their third and likely final Asian Games appearance, will face India’s Dhruv Kapila-Tanisha Crasto in the next round.
Also through to the second round is men’s singles player Justin Hoh, who received a walkover in his match against Thailand’s Panitchaphon Teeraratsakul.
Meanwhile, newly formed mixed doubles pair Chen Tang Jie-Cheng Su Yin had an easy first-round match, defeating Bangladesh’s Al-Amin Jumar-Urmi Akter 21-14, 21-9.
They face an uphill battle in the second round against South Korea’s Kim Jae Hyeon-Jang Ha Jeong, who are ranked No 25 in the world.
