Tilak Varma was run out in a bizarre moment of lack of game awareness during the third India vs West Indies T20I at the Holkar Stadium in Indore on Sunday.

The dismissal happened in the 17th over when both Axar Patel and Tilak were caught unaware that the ball was still in play, a scenario that eventually cost the latter his wicket.

Axar flicked a Gudakesh Motie delivery towards the midwicket boundary and Kamil Pooran made a diving effort to stop the ball from touching the ropes. He was successful, but the batters thought the ball had touched the rope and punched gloves after taking a single.

Pooran picked the ball and threw on the strikers’ end where Axar entered the crease just in time despite Shai Hope’s effort, but Tilak was walking to the non strikers’ end unaware what was happening behind his back.

Hope threw the ball towards Motie, who flicked the bail before Tilak entered the crease.

The umpires first checked the boundary and once it was cleared, they adjudged Tilak run out as West Indies players chuckled in their celebrations.

Tilak scored 28 off 16 balls as India reached 223 in the first innings and won the match by 14 runs to lead the five-match series 2-1.
