Govt set aset US$112.000 for upgrading Tulungagung museum

Tulungagung, East Java (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Ministry of Culture has allocated a budget of Rp2 billion (US$112.000) to upgrade collection displays at Regional Museum of Tulungagung in East Java, aiming to enhance the museum’s appeal and enrich visitors’ educational experience.

Head of Culture and Tourism Office in Tulungagung, Ardian Candra, said on Tuesday the local government had proposed the revitalisation of the Regional Museum to the Ministry of Culture as early as 2025 and had received approval for the arrangement in 2026.

"A team of evaluators from the Culture Ministry decided to prioritise the display reconfiguration," Candra said in Tulungagung on Tuesday, noting that the ministry has yet to endorse facility expansion.

Candra welcomed the decision, saying the display improvements are necessary to keep pace with growing public interest in the museum and meet the visitors’ expectations.

He noted the regional museum currently houses 1,044 historical objects, including statues, ethnographic artifacts, replicas of the Wajak fossil human skulls, and around 800 ancient coins.

The Tulungagung district government plans to submit another proposal for museum expansion after the display reconfiguration is completed.
