LTO revokes licenses of 2 drivers involved in ‘gas-and-run’

Translate

MANILA, Philippines — The Land Transportation Office (LTO) on Thursday said it revoked the driver’s licenses of two taxi drivers involved in a gas-and-run incident after failure to provide sufficient explanation after being summoned.

According to the LTO, a taxi driver ran away without paying for his gas at a gasoline station. The LTO then issued a show cause against the taxi driver and the registered owner of the said vehicle last October 27.

“Ipinataw ang nasabing parusa matapos ang pagdinig na isinagawa ng LTO noong Oktubre 27, 2026, kung saan binigyan ng pagkakataon ang dalawang driver na magpaliwanag kaugnay ng insidente,” the LTO said in a statement.

(The said penalty was imposed after a hearing conducted by the LTO last October 27, 2026 where both drivers were given a chance to explain the incident.)

(However, they failed to provide a proper explanation. Their licenses were confiscated by the LYO while the taxi underwent impoundment.)

The LTO added that the drivers are disqualified from acquiring new licenses for two years.

The LTO then reminded drivers to be honest in fulfilling their obligations on the road.

LTO Chairperson Markus Lacanilao earlier condemned the incident as he warned that his agency will not tolerate such behavior.

(What the driver did to the gasoline station is wrong. We know that prices of gasoline products are high but this is not a reason to not pay for what they bought. Every employee works hard for every peso, that’s why this is unfair for them.) /mr
