Deepak Punia won bronze in the men’s 97kg freestyle wrestling event at the Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya after defeating Mongolia’s Gankhuyag Ganbaatar in the final.
This is his second Asian Games medal, having previously won silver in the men’s 86kg freestyle event in 2023.
The 27-year-old triumphed in a cagey, low-scoring clash by victory of two early points that helped him break the deadlock.
This is India’s third medal in freestyle wrestling after Sujeet Kalkal and Aman’s gold medals, and its fifth overall.
