KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 10 — Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) has welcomed the RM15 billion investment to strengthen the National Grid under Budget 2027, alongside measures to protect domestic electricity consumers and improve energy security.

In a statement today, TNB said the investment forms part of its RM43 billion programme from 2025 to 2027 to modernise the country’s electricity infrastructure and meet growing demand.

“We will continue to work closely with the government and stakeholders to ensure that the development of the nation’s energy system benefits the people, supports economic growth and contributes to a more sustainable future for generations to come,” TNB president and chief executive officer Datuk Seri Shamsul Ahmad said.

The utility company also backed the government’s decision to extend electricity bill protection to households consuming up to 800 kilowatt-hours (kWh) monthly, compared with 600 kWh previously, until December 31.

The measure is expected to benefit more than eight million households, representing up to 90 per cent of domestic electricity consumers.

TNB said it would also work more closely with the government to accelerate rural electrification projects, including improvements to electricity supply in Orang Asli settlements, tahfiz and pondok schools.

It also reaffirmed its commitment to expanding renewable energy capacity and supporting the country’s target of achieving a 70 per cent share of renewable energy in installed electricity generation capacity by 2050.
