MELAKA, Oct 26 — Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) is fielding seven new faces among its nine candidates in the upcoming Melaka state election, reflecting its push for leadership renewal.
Its secretary-general Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh said the new faces make up 77.8 per cent of the party’s line-up, including four young candidates.
She said three women are also among the candidates, accounting for 33.3 per cent of the party’s total.
“Since the announcement of the candidates, I have visited eight state constituency election operations centres to assess preparations, meet campaign workers and help coordinate campaign machinery.
“These visits will continue until tomorrow to ensure preparations at the constituency level are progressing smoothly,” she said in a social media post today.
Fuziah said political renewal was not merely about introducing new faces but also about creating opportunities for the younger generation and women to take on greater leadership roles and represent the aspirations of the people.
On Saturday, Prime Minister and Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that the coalition would contest 21 seats in the Melaka state election next month.
Of the total, PKR will contest nine seats, while DAP will field candidates in seven and Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) in five.
The new faces fielded by PKR are Mohd Yunazri Mustamiri in Tanjung Bidara, Mohd Khuzairie Mohd Kamal Kannan (Rembia), Denesh Palasubraniam (Asahan), Datuk Azman Abidin (Paya Rumput), Muhammad Hakimin Mokhtar (Ayer Molek), Esma Eazreen Husin (Rim) and Muhammad Faiq Azman (Serkam).
The other two women candidates are former Machap Jaya assemblywoman Datuk Ginie Lim Siew Lin, who is contesting the same seat, and Farzana Hayani Mohd Nasir (Kelebang). — Bernama
