Pamela Hurts has spent years teaching other people's children. This week, those children taught her something back. After her son, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts, was diagnosed with blood clots that will end his 2026 season, her school district declared a "Jalen Hurts Day," and her students filled her arms with handwritten cards. She filmed her reaction for TikTok. It is a small scene, but it shows how a health scare looks from the family side.

Pamela, a longtime teacher, shared the moment in a video.
"Okay, I must try not to cry. The district is making today Jalen Hurts Day in support of Jalen. Everybody has on their green, and I have all these cards, which I am gonna read every last one of them. Oh my goodness, in support, well wishes to Jalen. But it takes a village, and I am thankful for my village; I really am."
One card came from an eighth grader and was read in full.
"Dear Ms. Hurts, I am sorry for everything you are going through. I know that it's hard, but I hope our letters cheer you up. Everything will be okay if you're having a hard time. I hope our school campus helps. You can overcome this, and Jalen Hurts will overcome this as well. Sincerely, Linda Stakley, 8th grade."
The day followed a message Pamela posted earlier. She urged her followers to value what they have.
"Just a reminder, y'all, be grateful," she said in a TikTok video on Monday, October 19. "Be grateful for where you are and what you have because your life could change at a blink of an eye. Be grateful. What are you grateful for?"
Jalen Hurts blood clot diagnosis: what is known so far
The medical timeline moved fast. An ultrasound in London on October 10 found a superficial clot in his left calf. He played the Jacksonville Jaguars on October 11. Back in Philadelphia, further testing found deep vein thrombosis and bilateral pulmonary emboli, meaning clots in his lungs. He is expected to miss the rest of the season.
His agent, Nicole Lynn, said in a statement that Hurts is clinically stable with no functional limitations. He will take blood thinners and cannot take part in contact activities, including football, during treatment. His prognosis is reportedly very good, with a full recovery expected.
The NFL and the NFL Players Association announced on October 25 that they are jointly reviewing how the diagnosis was handled. The union had asked for the investigation.
The Eagles will feel the loss on the field. For his mother, the cards were worth more than any depth chart.
