Over 100 travelers were stranded in Batanes as Typhoon Rosal forced a major airport to close.
According to Tina Panganiban-Perez's report on "24 Oras," Batanes felt the full brunt of Rosal, with large waves whipping the shores and reaching nearby houses.
Strong waves also hit the Basco Port. Similarly, the Basco Airport also had to suspend operations, leaving over 100 passengers stranded.
Some trees also fell, falling on roads. Crops in some areas were also flattened.
On Mavatuy Road, there was also a rockslide, which authorities were quick to clear. There were also rockslides reported in other parts of Sabtang.
Rosal also affected Batan Island’s power supply because of a line fault at Batanelco. Repair and restoration are ongoing.
In Ilocos Norte, some residents were affected by a storm surge. Because of how large the waves were in Pagudpud, the water reached the streets and some houses. Some boats were also wrecked.
Meanwhile, in Aparri, Cagayan, the water reached some houses due to the strong waves.
Strong winds and waves were also seen in the Province of Aurora due to Rosal.
Based on PAGASA’s latest report, Rosal has weakened and may exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Saturday morning. –Jean Mangaluz/NB, GMA News
