Emmerdale confirms Charity's fate after Thea Ramsden's risky plan

Translate

Emmerdale has confirmed Charity Dingle's fate after DS Thea Ramsden executed a risky plan to get her off the hook in tonight's episode. Charity is on remand after Sarah falsely told police that Charity had murdered Dr Caitlin Todd. Sarah was the one who pushed Todd during a confrontation, causing Todd's fatal fall.

The pair initially claimed that Charity had killed Todd in self-defence, but Sarah later accused Charity of murder after learning that baby Leyla was Charity's biological child with Ross.

Sarah has since retracted her accusation and is now trying to free Charity, even attempting to blackmail former officer Serena and her secret best friend, Thea.

In tonight's episode, Charity was taken aback when Serena visited her in prison and was surprised that she wanted to talk about Sarah.

"I'm not here for a catch-up. We need to talk about Sarah," Serena told Charity.

Serena told Charity she was secretly friends with Thea and that Sarah was blackmailing her, saying: "She's threatening to throw us both under the bus if Thea doesn't get you out of here."

Serena asked Charity to speak to Sarah and try to make her see sense, though Charity said even Cain couldn't get through to her.

Meanwhile, in the village, Thea tried to talk Sarah out of her blackmail plan, but Sarah appeared immovable.

Later, Thea caught up with Serena for an update on how things went with Charity, telling her that Sarah won't speak to her.

With everything going wrong, Thea took matters into her own hands. The police officer was seen tampering with the evidence to get Charity off the hook by interfering with an audio recording of her interview.

She told her superior that the file had been corrupted and that they couldn't use Charity's initial interview. Her boss told her that she doubted the CPS would touch the case, given the shaky evidence now. Has Thea jeopardised her own future?

Speaking exclusively to Digital Spy at the Inside Soap Awards 2026, Charity actor Emma Atkins confirmed that Charity won't hold a grudge against Sarah for causing her prison ordeal.

"I think that's a no-brainer – she's already forgiven her," Emma told us. "Because she's like: 'It's my penance, it's my duty really to take one for the team'.

"She kept these awful secrets under her nose for a long, long time. I think she was expecting some form of retribution – and she's taking it on the chin!"

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 8pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
