Tentoonstelling over camera's in de rechtszaal geopend in het Justitiepaleis

De tentoonstelling werd oorspronkelijk in 2021 ontwikkeld in Frankrijk met beelden uit het Franse rijksarchief en trok sindsdien al naar verschillende andere landen. Ze belicht de rol en het maatschappelijk belang van audiovisuele opnames van verschillende belangrijke, historische processen.

In de originele expo kwamen onder andere al de Neurenbergprocessen (1945-1946), het proces van Gestapo-chef Klaus Barbie (1987) en dat rond de Chileense dictatuur (2010) aan bod.

Voor de tentoonstelling in Brussel is het proces rond het Fort van Breendonk in Mechelen (1946) toegevoegd, met beeldmateriaal van het War Heritage Institute.

Het initiatief om de tentoonstelling naar het Justitiepaleis te halen, kwam van de eerste voorzitter van het Brusselse hof van beroep, Laurence Massart. Zij zat de voorbije jaren de grootste assisenprocessen rond jihadistische aanslagen voor en verzette zich daarbij nochtans steevast tegen beeldopnames van de debatten.

"Het zit niet in ons DNA. Wat ons als magistraat drijft, is dat getuigen in alle vrijheid kunnen komen, zonder druk van de camera's", zo verklaarde Massart. "Maar we evolueren door discussie te voeren. We moeten ook de sporen die we achterlaten voor de volgende generaties, in overweging kunnen nemen."
