Full list of Bafana Bafana’s biggest ever score victories

Translate

South Africa’s record on this list includes a six-goal demolition of Seychelles, while three different opponents have suffered 5-0 defeats against Bafana Bafana.

The latest addition came on 30 September 2026, when Pitso Mosimane’s side produced a dominant display against Eritrea in their AFCON 2027 qualifier in Cairo.

BAFANA BAFANA’S BIGGEST WINS

The biggest victory on the list came against Seychelles in October 2018. Bafana Bafana thrashed Seychelles 6-0 on 13 October 2018 in an AFCON qualifier. It remains the largest winning margin among the four results highlighted here.

The victory came during South Africa’s qualification campaign for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, with South Africa producing a commanding performance against the island nation.

The next three results all ended in 5-0 victories, although they came in different circumstances. South Africa first recorded a 5-0 victory over Guatemala on 31 May 2010 in an international friendly.

The match came just days before the 2010 FIFA World Cup, which was hosted in South Africa. The 1996 AFCON champions were preparing for the tournament on home soil and produced a convincing performance against their Central American opponents.

More than 14 years later, South Africa repeated the scoreline against Congo.

SOUTH AFRICA ADD TWO MORE 5-0 WINS

On 11 October 2024, Bafana Bafana defeated Congo 5-0 in an AFCON qualifier. The result was another significant victory during South Africa’s qualification campaign and matched the margin of their 2010 win over Guatemala.

Then came the latest 5-0 victory. South Africa defeated Eritrea 5-0 in Cairo on 30 September 2026 in their AFCON 2027 qualifying campaign.

Relebohile Mofokeng was one of the standout performers, scoring twice as South Africa took control of the match. Oswin Appollis also played a major role, providing three assists.

The result followed South Africa’s 2-1 victory over Guinea in their opening Group D qualifier, giving Pitso Mosimane’s team another important result.

The Eritrea victory now sits alongside the wins over Guatemala and Congo as Bafana Bafana’s biggest victories by a five-goal margin. For South Africa, these results highlight some of the most emphatic performances in their recent international history.

BAFANA BAFANA’S BIGGEST WINS

  • 6-0 vs Seychelles — 13 October 2018 (AFCON Qualifier)
  • 5-0 vs Guatemala — 31 May 2010 (International Friendly)
  • 5-0 vs Congo — 11 October 2024 (AFCON Qualifier)
  • 5-0 vs Eritrea — 30 September 2026 (AFCON Qualifier)

With South Africa still in the early stages of their AFCON 2027 qualifying campaign, the 5-0 victory over Eritrea has already become one of the biggest wins in the national team’s recent history.
