Two Gloucester schools in lockdown after boy hurt in incident

Translate

Two schools are in lockdown as armed police search for a group of people involved in an altercation that left a boy injured.

One male was seen with a "long-bladed item" during the incident outside St Peter's High School in Gloucester earlier, police said.

Armed officers are now searching for a group involved who fled the area. The force said one boy had been taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The Tuffley school and nearby Willow Primary Academy are locked down and officers asked parents not to attend. A police spokesperson said there was "no ongoing threat at the school" and pupils were safe within the school grounds.

Adam, whose daughter attends St Peter's, said he felt frightened even though he had texted her and knew she was OK.

"I don't think this should happen at school. Thank God she is safe," he added.

The school had messaged parents to say everything was under control, he added.

Another parent outside the school gates, whose daughter is in Year 8 and nephew is in Year 7, said the family was "so worried" and "not going anywhere".

"I'm slightly calmer now the police have told us they're safe but I want to take them home.

"I haven't heard from them because they aren't allowed phones in school," she added.

Police, who were called to Chalford Road at 08:50 GMT, said no other injuries had been reported.
