More than 1,000 communist terrorist group members have been neutralized so far in military operations this year, the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC) said.
In a statement, the task force said that 1,355 alleged communist terrorist group members have been neutralized. Of this number, 1,227 surrendered, 48 were arrested, and 79 were killed during military operations.
The NTF-ELCAC also asked member agencies to prioritize programs that would help the reintegration of former rebels.
NTF-ELCAC Executive Director Danilo Pamonag said that a total of 27,897 former members and supporters of the Communist Party of the Philippines, New People’s Army, and National Democratic Font have returned to the society since 2022.
Pamonag also urged the Armed Forces of the Philippines, the Philippine National Police, the National Intelligence Coordinating Agency, the Department of Information and Communications Technology, and National Bureau of Investigation, “to track, flag and integrate cybersecurity measures to address online radicalization and terrorism financing schemes.”
Moreover, the amnesty board is also facilitating the processing on 13,841 amnesty applications of former rebels.
President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. granted amnesty to rebel groups in 2023 through Proclamation Nos. 403, 404, 405, and 406, covering the CPP-NPA-NDF, MNLF, MILF, and the RPMP-RPA-ABB. The scope of amnesty varies per group. — Vince Angelo Ferreras/BM, GMA News
