Bali Police end probe into Australian family murder-suicide

Denpasar, Bali (ANTARA) - The Denpasar Police in Bali have decided to conclude the investigation into a suspected murder-suicide in an Australian family in Kuta, Badung District, through the issuance of the warrant of termination of investigation (SP3).

Denpasar Police Chief Senior Commissioner Leonardo David Simatupang said the investigation is closed as the main suspect also died in the crime, which occurred at a holiday bungalow in Kuta on Sunday (Sept 13).

"On this murder-suicide case, in regard to the murders perpetrated by SDJ, we will follow up on evidence found for the case review in preparation for the SP3," Simatupang told the press here on Tuesday.

The main suspect was identified as SDJ, aged 57, while the two child victims were identified as ADS, aged 10, and LKS, aged 3.

Simatupang explained that following assessment of CCTV records and witness testimonies, the police concluded that SDJ murdered his two children before ending his life.

The police found the CCTV camera recorded only the sound of the children inside a room where SDJ murdered them. He was also suspected of shifting the CCTV camera's view away from the scene before committing the crime.

However, the CCTV camera recorded SDJ when he retrieved a blue rope from storage, which he later used to end his life.

The Denpasar Police Chief stated that his side obtained testimony from SDJ's wife, which detailed the family conditions before the murder-suicide.

According to the testimony, SDJ suffered from severe anxiety, yet he never sought medical attention to treat his condition. He also often had arguments with his wife.

He added that she had been away from her family since September 10, having returned to her hometown in Jakarta, when the murder took place.

Following coordination between the police and the Australian Consulate, they agreed to allow SDJ's wife to handle the funeral of the deceased, he said, adding that the family also rejected the autopsy request.

Simatupang said that the police are carrying out final legal steps in the case before issuing the SP3 to officially close the investigation.
